Q1) Why did you decide to work with Nicola at Brand Warrior?
I’m an experienced illustrator, with a track record of working with clients in areas relating to the environment, health and learning. I was looking to re-do my website and was keen to make sure the words and messaging connected with potential clients in my key areas.
I wanted to reinforce my position as an illustrator working with socially driven organisations and ethical brands, and to portray myself as a highly credible choice specifically for these kinds of clients.
Q2) How did working with Nicola help you overcome the challenges?
Nicola encouraged and pushed me to dig deep, and helped me to be clear on what sets me apart as an illustrator, what I stand for and why I want to specialise in working with particular kinds of clients.
She was able to distil everything we discussed down into a collection of brilliantly succinct words and statements, which we fine-tuned together to create a brand toolkit for my business. This has really helped me be clear and confident in the way I present myself and my work, specifically through the information I share on my website, and on social media posts.
The toolkit will continue to be a great asset, providing a starting point for everything I write relating to my illustration work, and helping me navigate future directions my career could take.
Q3) What did you enjoy the most about the process?
I found Nicola really easy to work with, we got on well and it definitely felt like we were on the same wavelength. I’m not usually someone who likes Zoom calls, but our online sessions were fun, easy-going and productive.
Nicola had a great knack of being able to coax information out of me, in a way that felt very collaborative. I enjoyed the whole process, and it was great to have someone to be accountable to.
Q4) What did you find most useful?
Doing work on your own business, especially if you work on your own, is really tough – it’s easy to get caught up in yourself, wound up in self-doubt and lose all confidence in what it is you’re trying to say. Plus it can take forever!
Working with Nicola was so helpful in moving things forward for me. She knows her stuff and quickly understood where I was with my illustration business and what I was trying to achieve. She brought focus, clarity and reassurance as we worked through all aspects of my business. I found her input really invaluable.
Q5) Who would you recommend works with Nicola?
I’d recommend Nicola to other illustrators or creatives, looking for clarity and focus for their business, to help provide direction in the work they’d like to do, and to feel confident in attracting the right sorts of clients.
I think working with Nicola would be particularly helpful for established illustrators who already have a sense of who they are and the work they want to do, but who are in need of someone to help them convey that in a way that speaks to their ideal clients.
